Hiring a removals company vs moving yourself.

Updated: Jul 28, 2020

Moving home can be a minefield, especially in the current climate. So, when considering whether to use a removal company or move on your own it is important to look at the following:

Not everyone requires the help of a removal company when moving  property, especially those living in small homes with easy to access. Some people choose to move their belongings in cars while others hire a van.

Hiring a van ranges between £70 - £90, depending on size, availability and the day you need it; you will also be asked to part with a sizeable deposit. Many removal companies have different budgets to suit. Some companies offer a man & van service from as little £15 per hour, depending on size and man power needed. Most also offer a fixed price for the job too.

There’s always plenty to do when moving property, such as packing the essentials, sorting out utilities, liaising with estate agents and getting the rest of the family ready. Using a removal company on the day can take one of the tasks off your plate.

You will need to take out additional insurance when moving to a new house yourself, to ensure that you are protected should any of your items be damaged. Removal companies are covered with Goods in transit insurance.

One of the main benefits of hiring a removal company is they will have the equipment and experience to ensure all your belongings are packed safely and securely.
